Just read the comments posted, and I feel I need to clarify things up a bit. I'd like to point out that every shop is different, and my goal in participating in the forum is to help other printers by providing information on how we do things here....not necessarily get into arguements with anyone. For years I've been a "lurker", and just read comments and never posted...but I've made a concerted effort to find time a few times a week to try to get more into the mix and help out. This type of tangent is disconcerting to say the least. Especially concerning items where folks are flaming my company on how it operates where they don't have all the facts and are just "assuming" they know what's going on. So to clarify: Based on OUR volume discounts, using Wilflex inks (sold through NazDar) are still cheaper than if we switched to QCM. In a very recent internal study where we compared ink system components that we use, on average QCM is 36.6% higher priced than normal Wilflex Classic MX (our standard everyday ink), and 13.6% higher than the Wilflex Epic (non-phthalate) inks. This is one of the main reasons we don't use QCM. Not to make this a Ford/Chevy, Mac/PC thing...but we're happy with our fantastic customer service from NazDar, and that also adds into the decision as well. It's not all about the ink. Regarding our "greenwashing" of the company: If that's what you want to call it, then fine. But that's not what we're doing and is miscatagorizing our efforts here. I'm absolutely certain that we can't please everyone with our efforts and performance on this issue, but we have made a concerted effort internally to build systematic change within TF for the better. It's an ongoing initiative that builds upon itself. This will include one day changing our ink (I can see that)....but currently there isn't an economic model to pay for that, so it's not a viable program this year. However, not listing everything...but here are a few things we've been working on these last six months or so: Reusing misprinted, stained or problem garments as our shop towels and rags (we also donate these to WorldVision), started a recyling program for our plastic and cardboard (our county currently doesn't reycle as strange as that seems, so we have to physically drive our recycling somewhere), started an energy savings program within the company to use less energy throughout the shop, installed a KVAR system on our compressors, have a sales initiative to sell RPET garment blanks, and yes we have printed almost 100k impressions with non-phthalate inks this year already. While it's easy to criticize others, especially in this type of format where everyone is pretty much anonymous...I'd like to think that we're all professionals and to keep it at that level. Just my two cents. -M ____________________ Marshall | ||
