The special handling and care reference is for shops like ours where we're not using non-phthalate inks as our standard ink...and the special handling and care is a reference to ensure there's no cross contamination. Special handling means that you are working from absolutely clean or new buckets, squeegees, screens, etc...and that your jobsheets are flagged as such. There should be an extra level of communication with your staff to ensure everyone is cognizant of the different ink, and that your production procedures are being followed.

It's great that you are using it, but not everyone is in that boat. For us to switch, we'd have to not only get rid of tens of thousands of dollars worth of ink components in our shop....but the added estimated cost that I've projected for us would run just over $85,000 based on our level of production and sales (over 8.5 million impressions last year). We buy a lot of our ink in 50 gallon drums....that's not something you can just get rid of quickly.

Based on conversations with our key clients, nobody wants to pay extra for this ink unless they have to...so for us, it's an easy decision to NOT completely switch to non-phthalate inks as our standard until the appropriate mandates warrant it.

Since the non-phthalate ink isn't required for every single shirt we are printing, and it's only for the occasional job that either the client is requesting it, or we're printing on some toddler onesies, bibs or something...we've decided to handle it on a case by case basis.

I just wanted to clarify that point, because I believe it was misunderstood.

Thanks,

-M
