The banking bailout (TARP) was the last of the biggest scams perpetrated by the Bush administration. The bailout was supposed to cover the loss of cash flow due to faltering loans the banks had made and was pushed through as a must do right now or else by the Bush administration. The simplest solution would have been for the gov to just buy up those troubled assets (for about the same money as TARP) and then refinance them at a low interest. This would have given the banks back their troubled money and gotten them out of the trouble they had gotten themselves into. As for the CC interest rates? That is why we have not had or used credit cards for the last 10 years. The only reason to have a credit card is to buy something you cannot afford right now. There is no other reason to have one. Discipline yourself and start using a debit card to buy stuff only when you have the money to pay for it.
