I have made quite a few shirt boards out of 3/4 Inch MDF (Home Depot) and Formica on top and bottom (easy to put on using contact cement). Make them whatever size you want or need. I have made big ones (5x) and small ones (girl's baby dolls, etc) You need just a saw, sander (belt would be nice), Router with a ball-bearing Bevel bit, and your wife's rolling pin (roll air bubbles out of the Formica). Put Saran Wrap around the pin when you use it so you will still want to eat your wife's biscuits on Sunday. My Shirt Boards are nearly two years old. I flash on them, but do not cure on them and they do not appear warped. I can make about 7 Shirt Boards from a 4x8 sheet of MDF, two 4x8 sheets of formica (for top and bottom) plus a quart of Contact Cement. Cost about $100, but remember that's for about 7 boards. At that price, make extras and if they do warp, pitch em. To cut costs if $100 is too much, you can buy Formica in 2x4 sheets. Using 2x4 size, you can make 2 boards using two 2x4 sheets of Formica and a 2x4 sheet of MDF. That would cost about $50. Makes more sense to buy for 7. If you need more info, email me. | |
