 Since we haven't heard, guess he got his issue fixed.

To this day I'm not sure why I (and obviously some other people) had/have that conflict.
Could have been 'other' programs interferring with the Shell Extension, could have been the way my Vista defaults were set up.

All I know is that after struggling with this issue for months on end, a silly little, nonsensical file association did the trick.
