Does anyone have any suggestions about how to stay competitive with pricing yet still make a decent profit? (besides learning about competitors) Your (or their) competitors should have nothing to do with what they need to charge to make a profit. Their low-balling competition could be either 1.Smart, devious, and wealthy and willing to lose money until they control the local market, or 2.Stupid and soon to be out of business. As has been pointed out, one needs to accurately figure overhead, wages, and desired profit. They then need to produce a product that the market will want at that price. In today's Walmart, Chinese crap world, it is not always easy. Your client may need to find a niche that reduces competition. On the other hand, your client may well not have the skills or efficient-enough business to compete. Success in a saturated field is certainly not guaranteed. | |
