I don't know when Alan, the original manufacturer, sold the company. I bought my press from him about 5 years ago. I believe that he outsourced the construction to Mexico before selling, and there was a woman on these boards who bought one while I still owned mine who claimed there was simply not enough adjustment in the components to compensate for the poor welding fitment that made things impossible to align. The company that currently makes the presses has only recently changed color and design. A two-year old one might be suspect. Then again, it might be okay. The only way to know is to see the press in action, put a screen in each clamp and see if the platens are aligned, and if not, does it look as though there's enough adjustment to do it? It's possible that the person selling it doesn't have it set up correctly, and it's possible that a lot of people who bought the press don't have the mechanical skill to look at the design and assembly and make some changes that would enable the press to be functional.
If you aren't familiar with presses, you may want to pass on this one, unless you see it in person and can get the current owner to address the questions about it's functions that have been raised in these forums. And I wouldn't pay more than $1200 for ANY CAPS press, regardless of age or condition. They are better than the spindly crap you see for sale new on Ebay, but the micros are poor and without some reengineering on those, you really need to look at the press as a non-micro press.
