Thanks for the reply Wayne. One of the reasons I'm posing this question, and the diagram does not show my specific dryer dimensions so I'll try to explain, is that since my heating elements are down below the belt in the fan chamber area, the overall height above the belt is limited.

The dryer was built to cure signs, so only has a 2" height opening for clearance. I plan on raising this up a bit if I put quartz elements above the belt.

http://www.quartzinfrared.com/ has elements for about $40 each if I buy six (3000w each). That is worlds cheaper than 18000w worth of infrared panel heating elements. I'm trying to heat roughly 8'x48" area.

My dryer has six REALLY OLD metal coil heating elements at 3000w each which I don't think are up to the task anymore.

If I put the quartz elements above the belt, another calculation I'll need to determine, like you said, is height above the belt. I noticed workhorse uses 12 elements in their large dryer which I calculated out to be 1250w each roughly so I would guess those elements could sit closer to the belt than 6 3000w elements. Or maybe I should bite it and get 12 elements?
